Jacobs join

Yesterday was our annual Jacobs join. Lunch with an activity , some stitching and plenty of time to sit and chat. If you have not yet tried it, then put the date in your diary for next year!!!! We meet at BANK TOP not at Horwich. Bring along a plate of food to share and usual sewing eqipment. You may go home with a prize and another plate of food.
This time Brenda introduced a guess the famous person with only YESor NO answers. certainly quite taxing as we had to remember whether each persona was dead/alive , male or female etc. As older people Brenda relented and read out the list of possible names, several times. Shelacgh [AKA Sherlock Holmes}was amazing and annihalated the rest of us.guessing all but about three people.
The lunch spread was again imaginivite and plenty. I know that members were packing up food parcels to take away at the end.
I stayed to hear about the afternoon stitching activity which I think was a bit like "Consequences" where you stitch a bit and then pass it on. What" It" was is a mystery to me. Brenda would not say except that they could be used at an exhibition in October. I was leaving early as I had to drive to Mums so left at this point.Cant wait to hear and see about these mysteries.

Jan 2019

I was delighted to meet our speaker, Melanie Kay, last year at Harrogate. She was there as one of the EG graduates [congratualations] In conversation , I found that she completed her degree at Bolton Uni  and still lives in Manchester. I asked if she would like to speak at Bolton but Carole had got there first and she was already booked.
So walking in last night , it was lovely to meet her again. I was  glad I was there as there was a technical problem and I was able to utilise the old laptop that I had donated to Bolton years before. As well had a wonderful, display and great slides. Please visit Melanies site for better photos than mine and you will see the quotation below that explains her work.

I am a Manchester based Embroidery Artist that has a strong desire for my artistic work to be meaningful, purposeful and to act as a visual language. I like to experiment with a variety of canvases, which link to the subject matter to form narrative. Imagery, text and colour are used metaphorically to encourage thought, raise questions and provoke speculations.

As you can see, Melanie has concentrated on using a cariety of metals in her very innovative work. Some was passed around and we were fascinated to see how she deconstructed, embroidered on and then reconstructed a beer can!!! You would need to hear her amaxing explanations to really apprecaie her work. Recommended....
