Embroiderers’ Guild – Bolton Branch      October 2017

Competitions

Our branch Christmas competition this year  is “A Christmas Gift Bag” decorated in a technique of your
choice.  The Members’ challenge for 2017/18 is “Underfoot”.   The closing date for entries is 28 February
 2018 and details are on the noticeboard.  They are also on the   EG website, but you need to log into the
 members’ section.  The Rose Bowl competition, to be judged at the regional day in April 2018, is on the
 theme of “Our Glorious North West”.  Our branch has done well in regional competitions in past years so
hopefully we will have some good entries next time.

 News

Our next workshop is on 18 November with Nikki Parmenter. There are still some places, please give your name and payment of £20 to Clare if you wish to come.  Our next Stitch Day is at Bank Top this
Saturday, 21 October, doors open at 10am.

The NW Regional AGM is also this Saturday on 21 October at Garstang Country Hotel & Golf Club.

Details of the regional Summer school are on the notice board.  The two tutors are Julia Triston who
came to our regional day at Haigh Hall and Valerie Wartelle who came to our June meeting.

Introduce a Friend. Extra copies of our programme are available for you to take and give to any friends
 who might like to join us.  There are also posters, please take one if you know a shop, etc that could display one.

 Exhibitions/Events

The Harrogate Knitting and Stitching Show takes place from 23 – 26 November.  Reduced tickets at £11 are again available for group purchases of 10 tickets or more.  As last year members of the group do not need to travel together.  Tyrer’s are running a coach trip to Harrogate on Sat, 25 November.  Cost £16.50.  Names to Sheelagh this evening.

Manchester EG are having an exhibition at the Parsonage, Didsbury M20 2RQ under the title
 “Reuse, Recycle, Reclaim”  until 22 October.  Open daily. 
There are two exhibitions in the area with an Indian theme:  Kantab – Quilting Stories from India at the Manchester Craft and Design Centre, Oak St, M4 5JD  to 12 November;  and a display of Indian Kantha Textiles at the Arc Centre, Reddish SK5 7BR  to 17 November.

“Shaped by Time”, Textile 21 group are exhibiting at Ordsall Hall from 1 Oct – 4 Feb 2018.

The Silk Museum at Macclesfield have an exhibition by Threadmill who are exhibiting work inspired by items in the museum’s collection to create a journey through the countries of the Silk Rd.  Until 10 Nov.
