Ordsall Hall
A busy weekend, Barbara joined me on a trip to Ordsall Hall. There we met with Sue from Manchester and Patricia from Pendle. We set up a table with a few pessonal pieces{the travelling books were well used]our programme and the address labels that we had made, Sue had previously taken a design of a dragon fron the Radcliffe bed so we used this a base for the public to stitch, She had also worked some bee designs which she made into brooches, We had all taken along work that we were currently doing so there was a lot on show. I hoped to push on with my blackbird but we hardly had a free moment. There was a lovely family with two small boys we wanted to see and know about EVERYTHING.
They were charming and enthusiastic. Nikki from yesterday came alon with her mother and several Guild friend as well. All of the programmes for both Manchester and Bolton vanished so we do hope that we have encouraged some more members of the public to pick up a needle and maybe even join us. Just three photos, the top one is a guest showing off her newly made bee brooch, the middle is two persons working on their brooches and the bottom is really the first, as we set up our table. Liz from the Hall kept popping in and at the end told us that over 200 members of the public had visirted that day.Its alovely venue so do call soon.
November workshop
I had missed the talks at Pendle and Bolton that out Saturday tutor, Nikki Parmenter had given so had to rely on opinions. I did look at Nikkis site and wondered if it were too clever for me but always up for the challenge.
Nikki began by showing us three of her recent pieces and then we chose from some prints that she had brought along.
I think the bird in the middle, created by Pam was my favourite
WE had the usual discussion at the end of the day
As per usual, I decided to try it my way. I wanted to create a Chameleon to represent my holiday in Madagascar earier this year. I had my own photos to work from but really went to town with colour. It was a perfect chance to use those fabrics that you wondered why you had bought them. He is supposed to blend in with the background but the usual response when friends see it is Well, yes err. I ve called him Claude and I enjoyed making him!!!

Our branch
Christmas
competition this year is “A Christmas
Gift Bag” decorated in a technique of your
choice. The Members’
challenge for 2017/18 is “Underfoot”.
The closing date for entries is 28 February
2018 and details are on the noticeboard. They are also on the EG
website, but you need to log into the
members’ section. The Rose
Bowl competition, to be judged at the regional day in April 2018, is on the
theme of “Our Glorious North West”. Our branch has done well in regional
competitions in past years so
hopefully we will
have some good entries next time.
News
Our next workshop is on 18 November with Nikki
Parmenter. There are still some places, please give your name and payment of
£20 to Clare if you wish to come. Our
next Stitch Day is at Bank Top this
Saturday, 21 October,
doors open at 10am.
The NW Regional AGM is also this Saturday
on 21 October at Garstang Country Hotel & Golf Club.

regional Summer school are on the
notice board. The two tutors are Julia
Triston who
came to our regional
day at Haigh Hall and Valerie Wartelle who came to our June meeting.
Introduce a Friend. Extra copies of our programme are
available for you to take and give to any friends
who might like to join us. There are also posters, please take one if you
know a shop, etc that could display one.
Exhibitions/Events
The Harrogate Knitting and Stitching Show
takes place from 23 – 26 November.
Reduced tickets at £11 are again available for group purchases of 10
tickets or more. As last year members of
the group do not need to travel together.
Tyrer’s are running a coach trip to Harrogate on Sat, 25 November. Cost £16.50.
Names to Sheelagh this evening.
Manchester EG are having an exhibition at the Parsonage,
Didsbury M20 2RQ under the title
“Reuse, Recycle, Reclaim” until 22 October. Open daily.
There are two
exhibitions in the area with an Indian theme:
Kantab – Quilting Stories from India at the Manchester Craft and Design
Centre, Oak St, M4 5JD to 12
November; and a display of Indian Kantha
Textiles at the Arc Centre, Reddish SK5 7BR to 17 November.
“Shaped by Time”, Textile 21 group are exhibiting at
Ordsall Hall from 1 Oct – 4 Feb 2018.
The Silk Museum at Macclesfield have an
exhibition by Threadmill who are exhibiting work inspired by items in the
museum’s collection to create a journey through the countries of the Silk Rd. Until 10 Nov.

October meeting
It was my first trip back to Bolton Branch for a year as I found the time needed and responsibilities of NWR Chair and membership of Bolton to be difficult. However I was warmly welcomed back. Val Hughes was setting up for her talk This was her third visit and the second time that she has done this talk. The Ann Boleyn Collection. I remember the dresses well and the passion that Val fels for her subject.She had brought along 8 gowns inspired by the life of Ann Boleyn. They were all black and red, slashed, ripped and twisted. Val explained how she came to use these techniques to represent the tortuous and bloody life of Ann. I will say no more as it would spoil a new listener to hear more....
But I did take some photos and am sure you will recognise some from Harrogate shows.

have our AGM, Molly’s cup competition
and a practical
activity while we chat and catch up. We
have a varied programme to look forward to and

On 5 August, a group of members gathered at
Middlebrook to celebrate National Day of Stitch and promote our EG branch. Visitors weren’t as numerous as we had hoped
for but we enjoyed stitching our butterflies.

Summer meal
I was invited but unable to attend this years meal, the first that I have missed since I introduced it many years ago. I am tolsd by three different members, that it was another lovely occassion.Brenda has sent me some photos
Shae also added a paragraph about the EGM and the next day sent me photos about the Butterfly bag.
Yes
it was a very enjoyable evening as usual and the weather was kind to us again so
that we could relax in
the little courtyard outside first.
There
has been some minor changes to the committee with Janet Mitchell moving from
sales table to raffle and Linda Thornton
taking
over the library, also Karen Vaughan will run the sales table with the help of
Debbie, otherwise all remains the same.
We
have arranged to have the Day of Stitch in the arcade at Middlebrook leading up
to the cinema for our work area and I have been busy making
folk
inspired stitched butterflies to attach to a fabric collage of a tree when I get
to sort it. I have made a bag to hopefully inspire the branch
members
to
come along and take part and have also made up some kits so that they can make
the butterflies before hand and come along to attach them to the
tree!
