Out and about,Padiham

How time flies by, another AGM for Padiham.Nan. our Chair began by thanking the committee and members for making her year so enjoyable and then gave an account of the past year and finally introduced the committee.

She has managed to persuade members to fill all the posts so we are looking forward to another year. Sadly Veronica has had to resign due to work commitments but we hope to see her whenever she can make it.

Our speaker Chris Mitchell then explained how bags of Difference was making such a huge affect on the women  of Uganda. She visits and teaches how to construct various bags and then check their quality before bringing them home for sale. Each article is made of glorious African fabric and her display was amazing.

She was inspiring and many of us purchased items. Her talk was well illustrated with slides and ably assisted by her husband.

In July we had been set a challenge of creating a banner. Almost every letter has been returned and we look to seeing it displayed very soon.

Out and about, Gawthorpe.

Ann, Barbara, Pauline and I  had a trip out today to Gawthorpe hall. First a quick sandwich and then we mounted the stairs to the Inspired exhibition. It is being displayed in the same room as our previous exhibition. The original plans had to be abandoned due to the amount of pieces submitted. I counted about 85.

The new education officer came to meet us and I was able to give her photocopies of the current Workbox magazine. I am delighted to say that we have a 4 page spread in it.

Proud as peacocks!!!!! The exhibition is on until early November.

Out and about,Blackpool

Barbara and I went to Blackpool last Friday, not to paddle but to visit the North Pier. Lytham St Annes and Blackpool branches were holding a joint exhibition at the end of the pier.The mayor of Blackpool and his wife officially opened the event. There was a wide range of pieces of work, a raffle {where i won a book} and sales table.

We each  had a hard decision to make, choosing our favourite piece. There were several that really caught m eye.Congratulations to both branches for all their hard work.Its a shame that it is now over and you cannot visit,

Museum store study trip

This afternoon a group of us  met for lunch and then found our way to the Museum stores, itself an interesting journey,,,,,don't follow Jennie!!!! Matthew greeted us and gave us a brief tour. He had then assembled a dozen pieces for us to study.draw and photograph. I have included e photos of these items, but many of us took greater inspiration from the furniture and piles of baskets also stored there. I have almost 50 pictures if anyone wants other inspiration.

EGM/Meal July 13

It was a most unusual EGM on Tuesday. Why? well we met at the Ridgmont ,collected a champagne cocktail and went outside!!!!We are in the midst of a heat wave, so the gardens were a welcome break. Clare had been busy and had secured the support so that she was able to fill all the places on the committee. We are now able to publish our programme and then  have the committee ratified at our AGM in September.

From this very short business meeting , we adjourned upstairs for our annual meal. I chose liver parfait, chicken and a trio of desserts, lots of wine and water and a coffee. The constant buzz of conversation from every table, re enforced the idea that we were all having a lovely time.
